There is a "Private Messages" label on the second toolbar right beneath "Forum" on the left side. Notifications will work, too.

I think you have to cllick on the "Notifications" tab to see if you have any private messages unlike the other software where, as soon as you log on, you could see you have unread mail or maybe I'm missing something. Just an observation, not a whine. Could you verify that Mr. Admin?
